The Thaipusam festival, is an Hindu festival celebrate by the Tamils. It takes place annually during the full moon in the Thamil (10th month) of the Tamil calendar in January or February of the Gregorian calendar.
The festival is a public holiday in six places in Malaysia (Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Kuala Lumpur). Thaipusam celebrates the birthday of Murugan, the youngest son of Goddess Shiva and the Goddess of Snow Mountain, on which day he received a gift from the Snow Mountain Goddess - a spear that eventually extinguished the Devil named Soorapadman. On this day, believers perform various sacred ceremonies to show their thanks or atonement towards the God.

大宝森节是泰米尔人所庆祝的一个印度教节日,每年在泰米尔历的“泰月”(第十个月)满月时举行,时在公历的一月或二月。
这个节日是马来西亚六地(槟榔屿州、霹雳州、雪兰莪州、森美兰州、柔佛州和吉隆坡)的法定假日。大宝森节庆祝湿婆和雪山女神的幼子战神穆卢干(Murugan)的生日,在这一天他得到了雪山女神的馈赠——一支长矛,最终使其消灭了魔鬼Soorapadman。在这一天,信徒们会进行各种神圣的仪式以示对神明的谢恩或赎罪。
